I will be putting some eggs in my incubator in a couple of weeks for the first time. I have Heritage RIR rooster and hens. Is there a way to tell within a few days if they are males or females or will need to wait until they grow some. When I purchased my original ones from the local hatchery they were 4 days old and I was new to this. I wound up with 10 roosters and 2 pullets. 😳

If there is, I want to know too. Local hatchery probably was selling them Straight Run. That means you get what you get and if you ordered them, some hatcheries will send extra roos as living "packing peanuts" to keep the others warm.

They were straight run and I knew that when I purchased them. I just didn’t know enough at that time to be able to tell the sex until they started crowing. I am hoping I can tell before that point this time. I have someone who wants a rooster and a pullet when they hatch.
