my friend down the street has some silkies chicks going to hatch and he offered me 2...

would a RIR hen accept the chicks or what

Unless you have a hen that has been brooding for a few weeks, don't risk giving her chicks. If you have a hen that has stopped laying, sits in the nest box most of the day and only comes out to eat and poop once a day, then give it a try.
