Our RIR has a bleeding toe, looks like she just scratched at something and tore some skin off. We separated her from the others and washed it off. Does she need any kind of shot or antibiotics? Would anyone recommend wrapping it up?

Thanks!!!!

Chicken feet get really dirty! Any way you post a pic or describe if it is a scrape or deep cut?

Wash area with antimicrobial soap and water (like DIAL). Pat dry and smear it with Neosporin or triple antibiotic oint. You can even put a band-aid on it as long as you clean and redress at least twice a day for first 2-3 days depending on the size of the injury.
There are several different types of wound preps available at farm supply or vet on-line supply stores that might be handy to keep in the med cabinet.

Be sure not to get something called Tri-Care, though. It might kill your bird. Some preps have lidocaine or benzocaine, which can be fatal to chickens. Use something like BluKote, which is fine.

Thanks. I have some betadine for the horses so I washed it with that. Its really not a bad looking injury, just so hard to keep clean!
