RIR hen with Black EE roo?

I guess if some genetics hold true, it's a boy since there is more of the mother's coloring.
No, the coloring does not help figure out the gender.

Sexlinks are chickens where you can tell the gender at hatch, because of what color they are (or a few other traits.) But they only work when you cross parents in certain combinations.

For the rooster you have, with any of the hens you show, a red or striped chick could be either gender.

I just read it in some article the other day, so I'm not fully familiar with it yet.:oops: It's like people, just instead of the father's chromosomes or whatever they were talking about, it's the mother's/hen's.
In chickens, the mother determines the sex of the offspring.
Males have ZZ sex chromosomes, so they pass Z to each chick they sire.
Females have ZW sex chromosomes, so the hen gives Z to her sons and W to her daughters.

Yes, that is backward of people (females XX, males XY determine the gender of the offspring.)

Hens typically produce chicks of both genders. A hen who could produce a large number of chicks that are all one gender would be very unusual.
