The same 11 month old Rhode Island who was losing feathers is now laying eggs with little brown bumps on them. The eggs are rough on the ends, too, but coming at regular intervals (almost every day). I have been spraying Blu Kote on the bald spot on her lower back for a week now. Only the last 2 eggs look funny. The other 3 girls are doing fine, what's wrong with my baby?

My RIR just started laying eggs with little dark brown spots on them. They aren't raised, just dark spots. prior to this the egg was always a solid brown.

Pigment is added to the egg shell as it is getting ready to get layed. In marans, it's LOTS of pigment, in Welsummers and RIR less, but still pigment.

RIRs are sometimes called "Cherry Eggers" for this reason.
