RIR not acting normal..

my rhode island red isnt acting active or nothing, all she does is sit around on the floor and when i throw in food the chickens run for it, all except the RIR.. is there somthing wrong with her, or what

Other than laying around, what are her symptoms?
Has she been eating and drinking?
How are her poops?
Does her crop feel full?
Have you looked at the bottoms of her feet?
Have you checked her bum and wingpits for mites or fleas?
Is she panting? Has it been hot? Cold?
Are her comb and wattles brightly coloured or pale?

nope no eggs cept for ths morning and i took it

She eats, and sleeps, and drinks alot.. she just doesnt get too involved with the others.. her comb is red too.. so.. it might be the temprature.

Are you sure it was her egg? My RIR goes egg bound often. She has troubles passing the egg cause it's always so large. She asks just like your discribing when she's having problems.

When my RIR (Sissy) gets eggbound, her bottom usually feels really tight. She is probably about a year old and I don't think she grew up under optimum conditions.
She makes noises that indicate to me that she is uncomfortable. Sometimes just a gentle massage (working from front to vent) eases her. This last time, she still didn't lay the next day. I decided to give her a warm bath. I wanted her to relax and lubricate. She and I went into the tub together and I added vitamin e oil to the warm bathwater. I made sure she felt safe and rubbed the oily water on and around her vent. Afterwards I wrapped her in a towel and put her in a box in a semidark closet for about an hour. I let her back outside with the rest of the chickens, where she appeared more comfortable. The next day I found a huge, soft and broken egg in the chicken yard. and Sissy was not crying any more.

she doesnt let me touch her.. i try.. her former owners didnt handler her, or the comets much at all. the comets are just now getting to the point where their eating out of my hand.. I feel so sorry for her, and so hopeless.

you might want to get her after she roosts. Just so you can isolate her and check on her symtoms better and possibly provide her with individual food and water (in a non competitive situation)
It is easier to catch a chicken once it has roosted for the night, but you still want to be "nice" about it.

When you reach for her, dose she fluff up, and screach?? She might just be broody! I have a RIR/Australorp...went broody on the 16th. She now has 12 eggs under her...UGH...I DONT need more babies but I cant make myself take them from her. Its her First time broody.
