RIR on white leghorn?

Quote:
I don't think so ; I believe CQs are a sexlink of Silver Wyandotte X RIR , NH , or possibly a strain of production red . I believe hybrid Leghorns are dominate white and crossed with RIR both sexes of chicks will be mostly white with possibly a little bit of red or black spotting bleeding through . Not an expert , so maybe one will check in .

I sure am no expert either, lol! It just so happens I was reading up on this site about this mix just yesterday, lol. According to the breed index it would make a Red Star/Red sex link...not sure if it matters which is hen and which is rooster. It just says RIR X White Leghorn...does the order matter??? Or do you get a Red Star/Red sex link either way?

I did search to see and someone here has done it but they called them Golden Comets though. They did also say AKA Red Star/Red Sex link...it was a RIR rooster x White Leghorn hen...but I am not sure what is what now because the breed index says Golden Comets are a different mix. I am so new here, with the rules and all, IDK if I am allowed to link that post in this post or not...

Anywho...they did say they are great egg layers!

The "breed index" that you are referring to I would say wrong because; White Leghorns are Dominate White like Steve said. ( In order to use a Leghorn as a "Color" sex-link you would have to use a Silver Leghorn or a Columbian Leghorn )
Crossing a R.I. Red with a White Leghorn would get you a "F1" (First Generation) line of Production Red....

Now if you cross a White Leghorn Male with a R.I. Red Female you can feather sex by rate of feather growth at time of hatch...
