RIR production vs. show

My first RIRs were hatchery girls. Nice girls, great layers, but the beauties I have that are at laying age are like an entirely different breed. The rich dark color is just nice to watch, so gorgeous. Wont have anymore hatchery ones.

Supposedly, show RIRs have the mahogany modifier where hatchery/production birds don't. The show RIRs also tend to lay less and smaller eggs. The Rosecomb variety of RIRs haven't been as diluted as the straight comb RIRs from hatcheries.

Kris, I had heard that about the rosecombed RIRs. Julie had some when I got the eggs, but all mine turned out to be single combed. She said they were about the best layers she's ever had, but if they are only average, that's fine. They are such eye-candy!
