My Brothers neighbors has some RIR he got them the 2nd week in Feb. Which would put them at around 24 to 25 week. He has a great coop and nest boxes and a big yard for them. He hasn't gotten any eggs yet so I am thinking they are hoping the fence and laying in the bushes. I told him he needs to put either a golf ball or a fake egg in the nest and a few other tips I have learned over the year. I seen a few of then squat so I know they are close if not already laying.
Now for my questions. How can I tell them apart? I know nothing on how to sex RIR. I looked for pointed hackle and saddle feathers. I didn't see any that really stood out. They are pretty skittish birds. He has not heard any crowing which I would think there would be at 24 weeks. Also the ones that had the bigger combs and waddle were the ones that were squatting.
Thanks for your help.
I will try and take some pics today when I go over there.
