RIR rooster crossed with Red Sex Link

As long as your rooster is a nice mellow boy with no aggression problems, go for it. If he does have aggression problems, don't hatch his chicks. Aggressive behavior tends to be inherited. Mean roosters just make more mean birds.

I would expect them to as well as a typical Rhode Island Red considering that they will be 3/4 RIR. A red sexlink is usually half RIR, half White Leghorn. They probably won't lay as well as your red sexlink hens, but they will still be good producers. You just need to be careful about passing on a nasty attitude.

Sexlinks tend to lay better than their parent breeds because they are a first generation hybrid cross. Chicks with a sexlink parent won't produce quite as well, but they are still decent layers. You should still get eggs almost every day from them, they just won't be as efficient. They may eat a bit more than their sexlink mothers. For the rate of feed to egg production, nothing beats a sexlink, red or black. They are absolute machines when it comes to egg production, but they are usually done laying eggs by their third or fourth year. You will probably get more eggs out of their chicks over the course of their lives, than you will from your sexlinks.
