i had her for 5 years..... she got an injury, we took her to the vet and they gave us antibiotics. but she was getting worse. she passed away

Oh no! I'm so sorry!! The pics we took were not very good. Once we got it cleaned out and put the ointment on it, it didn't seem so bad. I guess only time will tell. We are keeping her isolated for now too. I'm thinking that it might not have been too bad originally, but the other chickens had been picking on her and made it worse. I hadn't really noticed right away because they free range all day and our yard is big. Today I Sat outside and watched. Then I found her hiding a lot.

If the wound is draining and all other issues are doing well that is a good sign. I've treated many wounds in my dogs (yes chickens aren't dogs! But wounds are wounds). Antibiotics will help if it's a dirty wound (one that is in a spot that you can't keep dirt out of as it moves through the day.) Keeping it separate so it has enough to eat and drink helps. If it's not too deep and if the bite didn't hit any major organ then once your RIR's wound heals it should do well.

I made her some scrambled eggs this morning and she wolfed them down. She seems to be moving around a little faster than yesterday, so it must have given her a nice boost of energy. Thanks!
