I got these 2 RIR hens a while back they were in molt so I never posted pics but its almost over and I wanted opinions as to coloring. Their combs are slowly getting better they were a little beat up when I got them.
These are production Reds , commonly sold by hatcheries as RIR. These should be better layer , better tempered then their cousins , true RIR. They also should not go broody (always exceptions), they were breed to lay and forget.
the guy I got them from breeds them himself but not for show reasons so not from a hatchery, but nice girls... jusy curioys as to their coloring I thought they were a little light but they were actually the darkest ones he had.

I agree, the Production reds I have and have had in the past are cannabalistic little things and flighty. My true RIR's are wonderful extremely friendly birds!
