We're hatching several of these. Wondering what the chances are they will be bantam sized, considering RIR in the mix. This one hatched with five toes. I also wondered if there is a connect between male and female when it comes to the five toes, like if they have an up turned toe does that have anything to do with determining the sex of the chick?

If the rooster is pure silkie, it is very likely that all of the chicks will have 5 toes on each foot. Birds will most likely mature somewhat larger than a silkie and smaller than a large fowl. Toe number does not indicate gender. This mating should produce some nice looking potentially broody mamas .

Thank you. The rooster isn't pure silkie though, he is RIR x silkie. I actually had a new one hatch this morning that is lacking in the having five toes. It's build of the feet seems larger or thicker than the one in the photo.
