Why are RIR roosters often used when their is a cross of breeds going on?
What besides good egg laying do they encourage?

Are they good for meat maybe?​

They do get pretty big but I wouldn’t raise them for meat.
Brahmas,Cornish rocks and jersey Giants are great for meat. They’d give you a lot more. I personally don’t raise chickens for meat but that is what I have heard.

Cornish rocks hardly live one year as they get extremely over weight and develop various different health problems giving you a good reason to cull them.
