Is there much risk of hawks or owls getting in between the rafters under the roof in coop? The gap is around 3" high and 18" wide. Its 11 ' high in front sloped to 10' in back.

I've wondered if coons could climb a plywood wall. I haven't seen any raccoons or signs of them but I live in the middle of nowhere so I know they're around.
That's what happened to my grandparents chickens... best patch it up with hardware cloth or 2x4

Any openings that large should be secured with hardware cloth. Raccoons (and other rodents) are resourceful and will find their way in.

I'd think the risk from an owl or hawk big enough to do damage to full grown full-sized breeds is pretty small. Bantams or baby chicks would be more at risk. But you might be surprised at how tight a space certain predators can squeeze through. Raccoons, possums, weasels, rats, snakes, bobcats, and other potential predators can climb surprisingly well. Up that high your risks are not huge but they are far from zero.

That's great ventilation up there, I'd leave it open, but covering it with a wire mesh might be a good idea.

I watched young raccoons climbing my T111 siding last year. No problem! Rats can climb anything. Owls and hawks come in smaller sizes too. Hardware cloth everywhere!!! Mary
