We’re putting together a 10’ x 10’ duck enclosure for three Cayugas, fully secure & predator proofed, and we’re wondering if we can use river rock for the flooring. Our only concern is this: Will it hurt their feet? Thoughts?

Thank you! Just to clarify here is a picture of what we have:

A lot of folks say sand but how do you keep it from washing out of your pen? I am not sure on using that solely in your pen. I have it in places here like where I have buckets of water but they aren't walking on it continually. like in a pen. Maybe a mixture of sand and river rock?

Yeah I don't know how that would work in areas that get heavy rain.

Back when I lived in the country the whole area was sand. No way to avoid it. I hated that I couldn't grow anything but goathead stickers.

The ducks did well on it but then they really had no choice.
