River sand or granite sand?

I will wind up doing a combination of sand and more DL-type methods, but I want to know which of these sand types you would choose as a base layer for a run? River sand or granite sand?

I don’t use sand except on my poop board, but from what I’ve read most people use river sand. If there is a big price difference, I can’t see it hurting anything to mix that with the granite, though.

I use river sand in my run simply because it's FREE!!! I use pine shavings in my coop. I've been thinking about using river sand in the coop as well...just haven't gotten around to trying it.

The granite sand is cheaper than the river sand where I live, but I want to get what's best for the birds. Thanks for the input!

I would get the coarser sand.
Why do you want sand under deep litter, do you have a drainage problem?

I've been reading about the benefits of sand in Zone 8, and I want to put a layer of sand down in the run before I do anything else and see how it goes. Then, if I need to start dumping in grass, pinestraw and cones, etc., there is plenty of that to be had free on our property.
