I purchased 4 RIRs around April 2014 and one of the hens has a cold I guess,
every evening when they go to roost in the coop, she makes noise that sounds
like a goose? I thought that maybe she had a cold, how ever it gets worse at
night?

Does any one have any ideal as to what the problem is?
None of the other birds have gotten sick and she really sounds bad at night?
Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time and help,

Hi

,
You sure this isn't a cockerel? When they start learn to crow they sound kinda like a strangled cat. It's really kind of funny! There is also a loud, harsh, hoarse call the males make to warn the flock of danger. Maybe you have a male?
Best,
Karen

I have two RIR hens, and they are the most loud and have the most variety in the sounds they make. I've also heard my Orphingtons make a sound like a honk when they get excited about something. It might just be the way she/he makes her/his sounds. If you think there may be a problem, examine the chicken's head and neck to make sure she isn't strangled on something or that she doesn't have some kind of infection.

We ordered 4 hens and one turned out to be a rooster, but he seems to be OK.
One of the hens is making the noise, sounds like a goose, strange noise and
when she makes the noise, the others look at her and move away???
