Road Rooster

Yeah, I wouldn't have picked him up and taken him into my coop. For sure it looks too sick and the humane thing would have been a bullet. I really hope your good deed doesn't end up hurting your own flock.
It's a shame that we are starting to see these unwanted roosters that seem to be abandoned and dropped off. I think I'm going to have to really look at the potential buyers of my chicks this spring to make sure they will be properly looked after.

Thank you all for your concern. My little road roo has perkrd up and is definatly gaining weight. He is still a little shy but starting to show some personality as well as getting around. I notesed a few nights ago he has started to roost on his feeder instead of hunkering down on the ground as he has for the last two weeks.

I have eaten a few roos twice his size and I was not impressed by the amount of meat on them. So Im skeptical that he will get big enough to bother butchering. He is turning into a decent pet so we will see if its the ax for him after we hear him crow

Yes...an update please and a recent picture. Are you sure it's a rooster? Don't battery hen's combs get really large in those cages?

Your road rooster is an old burned out lghorn hen. Get her back in shape, and she will start presenting you with nice white eggs.

I have my doubts about it being a hen, but we shall see. I havent picked a name yet but have been holding back from calling it Zoloft because it likes to hunker down under things and remindes me of the comercials. you know this guy?

So its been out with my other girls now for a week or so and spends most of its time under the car, but does come out to eat treets. Not limping any more thow still favors one leg. Comb is darkening, but not yet RED all over. here are a few shots taken today.

All and all the bird is a good pet and will probably stay.
