Here is Robert and my niece, Chloe. This is the most spoiled rotten quail. He never want to be in his cage. He runs around in the house, bossing the dogs (not always a good idea). This is the 4th bobwhite I have had as a pet. Who'd have thunk it. They make awesome pets!!!!

very cute, i got a trio of bobbies tonight they are tenn reds the noises they make are utterly adorable! I would love to have one as an indoor pet but these boogers are very afraid of me.

How old are they? I started with 6 1wk. old babies. Once I decided on which one I would keep, I rehomed the other 5. After much handling and time (about 2 weeks), he slowly came around and decided that I wasn't going to eat him. He was very frightened at first. I just kept handling him. Now he's the most rotten little guy and he's great.

Thank you so much for posting this!! I don't see many posts like this! I just hatched coturnix quail eggs mainly for keeping them as pets (for a few eggs too). I have 10 3 day old chicks. I want to keep 2 hens. Between my daughter and I handling them since they hatched...they are very used to being held now, lol! Some just fall asleep. I'm getting ready to give them mealworms to help in the taming too.

Any other pointers?

Awwww!! Adorable! I could listen to them sing all day long! They don't squawk like some birds, they truly sing to ya! I have tried to NOT handle mine, and keep them away from people so they were on the wildish side. My great aunt though... well, ya can't keep her away from them! LOL! She kept sneaking one little baby out and holding it. Now when I enter the aviary, one little booger comes running up to me, around my feet, just singing away. The others huddle in a corner or under the tall grass wondering what kinda alien their sibling is!

Man I wish my BWs would do that. I tamed my Mexican BW female. Now I can hold her for a few minutes and she doesnt fly away! lol

Cody!!
