Rocky64's chat thread: anything is welcome

I don't have any Broody's right now. Around April to September I get one or 2 broody hens even though I don't have a rooster.
I have styerfoam in my chickens laying boxes (well I used to until they begin to eat it) I took it out so they would not get styerfoam poisoning or get it into the eggs. For some reason they love the taste of that stuff.
I think my chicken that I was talking about yesterday is constipated which can cause a impacted/sour crop. I gave her a Epsom salt bath yesterday and she seems much better! I'm going to have her drink Epsom salt to get that stuff out! Also she's the chicken in the picture for my avatar. How's everyone's chickens doing? How's the weather?

I don't know if you should let your chicken drink Epsom salt, but I would look that up. My weather is in the 50's and my chickens are doing great. I think one of my pheasants is laying an egg; they normally steer clear of anyone that comes near the cage, but this one was laying near the back of the cage and didn't get up when she saw me, the rest of the females did though. Perfect timing actually, the pheasants are starting to lay when Sassy is starting to go broody.

Chickens can drink Epsom salt I think. I'll look it up just to check. The weather heres in the 30s and my chickens keep on drinking mud water in puddles. One of my americanas may go broody soon!

Wow! Is it summer where you are? :)
I think one of my hens is broody. She layed like 2 or 3 eggs so far today! I like your avatar picture @LoveThemBirds

I think Sassy gave the broody false alarm, I left for 4 hours and when I got back, she was off the nest and the eggs were cold.

I think I'm gonna get the incubator up and running either tomorrow or Monday. I have 2 silkie eggs and 2 of Sassy's eggs waiting to go in. I'll probably add some RIR/austrolorp eggs and Isa brown/austrolorp eggs too, since I'm not buying chicks from a store this year.

It sadly isn't summer, but it is spring.

thanks,like your s too!

Thanks!

That's cool how many eggs are you planning on incubating? What breed of chicken is sassy?

I'll be setting at least 6 eggs, if not more. Sassy is a mixed breed, her posture tells me that she has at least a little old English game, or old English game bantam in her background.
