Rodent problem??

A few days ago i found one of my 6 or 7 week old ducklings dead in its run. It was right on the edge in a small hole and one side had been eaten and the rest was just left. Could this be from a rat? It came as a shock because i'd only fed them a few hours ago and they were all fine running around

Sorry to hear about your duckling. It may have been a rat, I don't know. What you can do is bury the fence of your run at least a few inches deep. It'll stop predators tunnelling into your run. Putting up metal sheets with chick wire on top of that is expensive, but it works very well too.

You can also lay a skirt of hardware cloth around the outside of the run, lying flat on the ground.

It does sound like a rat, but who knows for sure. As Sumi said, I would bury yuor fence into the ground. I plan on doing that for my duck pen outside.
