rodent proof feeders for Silkies

We are almost ready to offer a new adjustable spring tension option on the feeders. The dual springs hook onto a bracket behind the front cover and a threaded bolt connects the lower bracket to another bracket at the top. It takes two wrenches or a wrench and a socket to adjust it but with the threaded bolt you can really fine tune the amount of tension needed to depress the treadle.

However the original problem remains; light birds like silkies don't have enough difference in weight and reach of that of the squirrels that are stealing the feed. Mice, easy to stop. Large rats, might be harder to stop if all you have are silkies or banties. Squirrels, forget about it. Might work half the time if the feeders are in use before the squirrels show up.
