Rogue Hen in The Backyard

Oh yes, build her a home. And get a couple more too. You will never regret it. We have always been dog and cat people, then we go chickens. OHMIGOSH are they fun and entertaining and you get eggs. They pay their rent. A bag of feed is extremely inexpensive too. Have fun with your new hobby and I know we will be seeing you around here a lot more.

I agree with the other posts. build her a tractor type coop, but open for her to go into and put some feed and water in it. Maybe put it near the place you have seen her. If she is laying or close to laying she may investigate it to lay in. Maybe? Mine LOVE bread.

Yep,
We found our first chicken at the bustoop one day. He followed us home and the rest is history. Check out our page for more details.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and *obvious* enthusiasm!! I think we are indeed going to build her a little house, something she can run in and out of. Obviously she seems to like her freedom, but I also think she'd appreciate a warm place to spend long winter nights. So I take it rogue chickens aren't really that unusual... I can't for the life of me figure out where she came from!

I'll post back in a week or two's time with more details and pictures. Thanks again to each of you for your kindness in welcoming a newbie!!

Well, I grew up in a the city, so even pet chickens a very rare. I can just imagine a little chicken waiting there for the bus with his suitcase

I guess if there were a stray chicken in my city, it would probably get picked up in minutes. I guess ours are pretty happy, they have never strayed.

to the little rogue hen! Glad to hear that you will build her a little house!! We have 3 hens and love them! They take up a very small space in our yard. Their coop is a bit bigger than a large doghouse. Very do-able.

Almost forgot....
