I got ROHAN with my first 4 chicks on a straight run from tractor supply 13 months ago. Raised with my kids, held in their hands very young/

ROHAN is now with 10 HENS that are 1 year old. He is king and protects them on our 5 acres.

First Off: I love this guy, he has never bothered my wife and 3 kids. He hates my father-in law because my father-in law messed with him in a joking manner and that was it. That's a different story.

My Point: Would like feedback, and your opinions: ROHAN is really pushing it now that he is 14 months old. More charging and aggressive than he was at 7 months old.

How do your Rooster's act with you? ROHAN gets annoyed when he sees me in a pinch point in my shed when the Hens are around. His charges are very Random. "He seems to be cool when I am not paying attention" But when I make eye contact and I am looking over my shoulder he senses my concern and that's when he charges.(Not always) I was in the shed today and he came at me, all hell broke loose :) I flipped the wheel barrel over by accident and lightly kicked him , he kept coming back...I swung the plastic rake at him...No fear by ROHAN! It's comical to me....but I am a bit concerned. I know he loves his ladies and that's what Roosters do.

I have a ton of respect for ROHAN , ,love the guy...but I am surprised at how protective roosters really are;

-How are you handling your bully roosters?
-Can you provide examples of how they are acting?
-What breed do you have?
-Do you feel the need to have a shovel or rake in your hand when you are in close, at certain times?..Thanks! Love that ROHAN !

LOL...Being an avid hunter ...I know how to skin a bird for sure. I guarantee nobody in this house will eat ROHAN. Looking forward to see the answers.

He doesn't respect you tho, or he would not repeatedly charge you.

I know how to skin a bird for sure.
Don't skin him, that's the best part!!

-I only handle males just enough to examine them(off roost at night) and let them know I won't hurt them, I do this before they become 'bullies'.
-If they are wary of me I sit quietly and calmly to acclimate, also move frequently thru enclosure walking slowly and calmly 'thru' him. I routinely handle hens and make sure he knows I won't hurt them either.
- Have had Dk Brahma, got as an adult and never had any trouble with him,
Welsummer cockerel was 'handled' well from chickhood,
BCM cockerel took a bit more time , but he wasn't handled much as a chick, we had a few go rounds when I picked up a chick but he calmed after some more time with him.
-If I needed a shovel, he would be soup.

My Naked Neck rooster goes after my husband when he is working outside especially if it involves the cordless drill.
He doesn’t like that drill at all.
He is a year old as of a week ago and was handled as a chick but not excessively.
He started attacking DH when he started working outside but not before that.
He has never ever flogged or attacked me.
I have no fear of him.
When he was a young cockerel I would chase him away when he would try to mount the hens.
The hens were older and would kick his butt!
We also have a Black Australorp cockerel that is 8 months old.
He was a skittish chick and is still skittish.
He’s never shown any aggression to anyone including the older rooster.

Because Angus (the NN) keeps going after my husband we are going to rehome him or send him to freezer camp.
We’ll keep Oliver, the Australorp, for now but I’m going to switch to bantam roosters.
They’re easier to deal with and they don’t ruin the hens feathers.

My neighbor has never had an aggressive rooster. I have had 2. She has a lot of roosters. I think they are so busy getting their pecking order settled among themselves that they do not have time to go after people. My roosters, on the other hand were single roosters with a whole flock to protect. When the roosters attacked me and my grandkids were afraid to come to my house it was time to send the roosters to freezer camp. Right now I have a mild rooster. Hopefully he stays that way.

I did work with the one rooster for 6 weeks to try to change his behavior. I kept him isolated in a little coop for six weeks. I fed him twice a day so maybe he would figure out I was the bringer of good food and water. Day after he was let out he attacked again.

I’ve had 5 Roosters in the last several years(accidentally) but one of those a Black Australorp rooster was very aggressive but only to my mom. She just had something about her that he wanted to attack her every time he saw her. He even tried to attack her through the runs fence when she walked past to the garden. Jake (BA) would literally jump and try to hang off her arms, clothes, head, anything he could attach himself to and just hang like a bat. Crazy behavior. We ended up eating him shortly after. Walker our RIRxleghorn has been great though. I’ve done the same thing as @ChooksNQuilts did with her NN and he’s never once been aggressive and he’s 3 maybe even 4 I do believe
