ROHAN - My Silver -Laced Wyandotte Rooster

Thanks for this post. I have a 1 yearold easter egger rooster great bird my 6 yearold can catch and hold him. One day out of the blue he started coming after me. Just me. Turns out he hates my red vest i was wearing. If i go out in that vest i carry a stick but other wise he is great.

ROHAN is still at it with the attacks. He hit me from behind today when I was doing work on my barn. For the most part he lets me walk around but he is way out of line.

Rohan has 10 Hens and 9 more young hens 12 weeks that are being brought in

He is just trying to protect his big group of ladies. I enjoy him and he keeps everyone gathered and protects. He never bothered my 9 year old son today and he was right by him on his bike. If he attacks one of the kids in the next days, he will be in my deep fryer

I have raised several roosters. Many were pets, and I only had one incident where a rooster attacked me and he wasn’t raised by me,had he’d been he would probably been a lap pet.I don’t understand how so many people have this issue.
So the best I can do is tell you how I deal with teen males, because after they past this stage, their perfect. In MOST of the males I raise I notice at around three or four months my cockerels will begin breeding and probably start doing some aggressive “gestured”,often directed towards me.Little things like this is what I catch early on.I usually will just tap their backs when they do this as an adult would to let them know I’m in charge, shew them about a foot away with my hands,I do this till the behavior stops. As they mature they usually stop this meaning by About five six months they stop doing any sort of aggression gestures, and at that pint are just pets.I use to keep about three because I had a large flock. There could be more factors as to why I don’t struggle with this, maybe because I had so many their main focus wasn’t on me and maybe the others males and dynamics in the flock, who knows, maybe I’ve just gotten lucky with all mine. All my boys have either been pets, or keep a respected distance with me.No flogging or anything.
