I have a 5 week old Barred Plymouth Rock who rolls in the shavings in the coop and trys to throw it on herself. I think I read somewhere on here that you should have some sand or dirt for them to roll in (dry bathe). Could someone tell me if this is so and what grade of dirt I should get?

dirt, sand, shavings, whatever you provide they'll make a wallow out of. Mine have chosen to use the gravel/dirt area in the walkway section of the carport... they've got it all loosened up for their dust bathing enjoyment, and also to trip us so we fall down and they can eat us. (I have very sneaky chickens)

Chickens love dust baths! If you can, provide then with a small dust pile made of play sand. It doesn't have to be bigger than 1'x1'x3". They will love you for it!

Enjoy!
