My rooster got attacked by a dog 1 week ago. We're still syringe feeding him water, an antibiotic, nutri-drench and egg yolk and he still won't try to eat or drink on his own or open his eyes. His eyes aren't crusted. I helped him open them slightly and he can still see but he just closes them again. He's still walking around the crate that we have him in and pops up for a second when he hears us but he otherwise he just stands there all day with his eyes closed. I just feel like he's not getting enough nutrients. Is there anything else we should be doing for him?

He could also be depressed, missing his flock. If he needs to be separated can you put him in a dog crate in the coop so he can still be with the flock? Pictures of his injuries, if any, would help us help you.

Welcome To BYC

Can you please post photos of his injuries and of him?

I would try syringe or tube feeding him if he's unable to eat/drink on his own.

On your other thread, there's a video of syringing meds, so syringing fluids is similar. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...xi-dosage-needed-please.1645848/post-28150838

He had some feathers ripped out on his back that we've been putting vetericyn on about 3 times a day and it's starting to heal up pretty well.

Poor guy!

He was attacked by a dog? You saw this?

He has some facial swelling and scabs around both ears, looks to be beaten up.
Both eyes are crusty closed, so I would make sure to work on getting them open so he can see to eat/drink.

Apply a warm compress that is soaked in saline to help loosen the crusts. Gently work the eye open, then flush/clean the eye with saline removing the crusties. Put an ointment like Terramycin IN the eye. Do this a couple of times a day, in a few days his eyes will feel a bit better and hopefully he'll start wanting to eat/drink. If you cannot find Terramycin you can use Triple Antibiotic Ointment/Original Neosporin in the eye.

For the dried crusted blood and scabs around the ears, same thing, apply a warm compress, put a little triple antibiotic ointment on the crusty material, it will start to come away after tending to them for a day or so. Do look inside the ears for signs of pus or infection.

Re-inspect him all over for any other abrasions, bruising, punctures, etc. that may need to be addressed.

He's suffered head trauma; it looks to me. I'd would start giving him 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily. Wet mushy feed with bits of egg is often enticing.

Keep us posted on how he's getting along.
