Roo Behavior

My husband and I had been discussing introducing a Buff roo into the flock but we are concerned that it may not get along with the Jersey roo we already have. The Jersey is about 20 weeks old and the roo we are wanting to get is about the same age. Is this a good idea or not? We have 8 Buffs and 4 Jersey hens, 1 Jersey roo.

It depends more on the individual roo's thatn anything else.

When they are first introduced, they will fight to establish who is dominant. This fighting could be short lived and both settle into their positions without more fighting, or it could go on until one kills the other.

If you get a second roo be prepared to build a second run & coop to house him if things don't work out, watch them very closely for the first couple of days, and be prepared to break up a fight and seperate them if it goes too far.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. We plan to make a seperate run for the Jerseys anyway.
