Hi all,

Through some rough times lately, we are down to 12 hens and 3 roosters. I've noticed lately that the roos are shooing the hens out of the coop (they have a fenced run). The hens are still laying eggs in the coop, so they are coming in once and a while... What is causing this behavior? Do I need to cull a rooster? (I want to get some more hens in the spring, so I'm not fully set on this option.) Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Sounds like you just have a bad roo vs hen ratio. If you are getting more hens then don't cull but if not you need to get rid of at lest one. Separating the roos from the hens until you get more would keep the roos friendly to each other and give the hens a break. They are probably driving the hens crazy topping all the time, so the hens would rather run.
