Roo chases me but never attacks?

He is trying to get up the nerve - he wants to dominate you but is too 'chicken' yet. Chase him right back. It *might* be enough to teach him you won't tolerate tthat behaviour from him. HOWEVER be prepared - if you chase him you may end up having to spar with him and give him a kick or two like another cock would.
But if you want to keep him, nowis the time to break his tendency before it's a full-blown habit.

Dang, I was trying to close my coop door the other day and there were a few shavings keeping me from latching it, so I just put my hand in at the bottom to move the obstruction - and my sweetest pullet Greytail pecked me hard twice fast, drawing blood and leaving blue bruises. She must have seen it as a predator because my hand appeared disembodied.
Beaks can do some nasty damage too.
Turns out the 'sweetest pullet' was a cockerel, who matured in a couple of months yo be a hen-terrorizing a-hole, running down my mature hens while they screamed across the yard. Unfortunatrly my eldest roo doesn't give a hoot (he is being given away) and the cockerel was sent to camp 3 days ago. I should have known - every bird with a personality thus far has turned out male. ☹

'Sweet', like 'friendly' is often the early indicator of 'bold' in cockerels, and turns into obnoxious as they mature.
And that Marans rooster will hurt you one of these days! Invite him to dinner, or send him home with someone who will.
Mary
