I got 2 Ameracauna pullets when they were about 7 or 8 weeks old back in May. The guy I got them from said he was 99% sure they were both female, but it was really hard to tell with this breed. They are now 19 or 20 weeks old. I've noticed all along that the white one is more adventerous that my others, and that 'her' comb has developed and colored a little faster, but the Ameracuana I got with 'her' seems to be a little behind on development, perhaps because she has a crossbeak? She is definetely the smallest of my 4 girls. So, could y'all help me out and tell me what you think? I'm hoping both girls, because I want blue eggs, and I can't have a rooster. No crowing or anything yet, so let me know if its too soon to be sure. Thanks!

Looks like a very nice hen. But the tail is very long. Is that green feet I see? I have a white EE hen and her tail does not look like that could be a rooster. Good looking any way.

Oh no! Now I have to explain to my DD that we can't keep him! Or should I wait until he starts crowing?

Wait until he crows. There's always the chance "he" is a very manly pullet, though with that sickle-shaped tail it's a thin chance! I have an Australorp with a huge red comb, iridescent pointed feathers and a massive ego, who laid a bunch of eggs and hatched herself a clutch of eggs! As they say, "Lay or crow, then you'll know!"

Thanks guys!

And Thanks Julie- I will wait until he crows, hopefully he will turn out like yours!

Brown one - definitely girl

White one -- It's hard to say for sure on this one, but if I had to guess, I'd guess cockerel - the tail feather definitely looks rooish - the comb is bright red - a bit darker than my EE pullets at that age, but you should know for sure soon - mine started laying at 22 1/2 weeks of age.

These two pics were taken at 20 weeks of age (not laying yet)

This is a black sexlink at 17 weeks with a rooish tailfeather - she outgrew it and now has a normal pullet tail:

The white one is a rooster for sure but I am not sure about the brown one. If I were you I would get rid of them now because It only gets harder the longer you keep them.
