Roo mating pullets before they lay ????

I have a mean EE Roo that is mating the pullets and they haven't even started laying yet. Is this normal? Or can he tell whick ones are about to start laying the soonest? Is there chicken wisdom here that I don't know about?

Normally pullets start squatting to accept a roo's mating behaviour before they start laying. Don't worry.

About how many weeks old is the roo when he will start trying to mate?

I have a 14 week old Banty roo that is taking hold of Banty girls also 14 weeks old, he tried it with my 14 week old Buff Cochin and she did not appreciate him, so I guess it is normal.

I had 7 week old Welsummers play-mating the girls so yep, quite normal.
