I have a light brahma who I posted about last week in the forum "what gender is this?" It was a toss up if it was a roo or hen...

Anyways, today I witnessed some odd, first time behavior. The light brahma was half way up the coop ladder, and my Buff girl was at the food dish. THe light brahma jumped and flew several feet to land on top of the buff's back. THe brahma held onto the feathers on the back of her neck while staying on top, and the buff was screaming. This lasted about 3-4 seconds.

So is this Dominant behavior or a Roo in training? BTW they will be 6 weeks tomorrow. It's odd because this brahma is the one who usually stays out of a chase for something good that one finds. My chickens are generally very nice to each other besides stealing each others food, the worst I've seen is chest butting

Can't help ya too much but my LB is just about the same age as yours. Saturday will be 6 weeks and my suspected roo is looking more and more like a roo, but he hasn't done anything like that. The most I've seen him doing is leading the girls and besides stomping on them, giving them the chicken stare. He doesn't beat up any others that I have because they are way bigger than him.

thanks guys. I had a bad feeling it was a boy thing even though he wasn't actually trying to do the act.

ohmychickies, mine looks more like a roo as time goes on. His/hers face looks pinker now than last week too, but so is the other brahma's so that doesn't help much.

Mine has a pinker comb than last week and the others don't and it's alot bigger than the others still. I can definitely tell him apart from the others.
