I am not 100% sure of the sex of these lovely looking chicks, would appreciate input! They are all approximately 5 weeks old now (guessing) i got them from a farm that was going into liquidation so got them really cheap (pun intended

) I never intended to get the bantams but they were the only two left and i couldnt leave them all alone!!

Chick #1: Titch - Chocolate Orpington Bantam

Chick #2- Star- Chocolate Orpington Bantam (almost identical to Titch!)

Chick #3- Red- Rhode Island Red

Chick #4 - Wiggle- Rhode Island Red

This is my first time having chicks so the breeds i have named are the ones i was told by the farmer i got them from (im no expert in identifying breeds at this age!) Would love some advice about what sex they could possibly be please. I tried the method of laying them on their backs to see if they were calm or fought and they were all calm, indicating that they are all hens.............this has not been helpful at all! Im almost convinced that Wiggle is a Roo............however like i said im no expert. HELP! please!!!

Hahaha! Glad im not the only one that is convinced Wiggle is a Roo! Suprising though because he is so tame and calm. :love

Wait until his hormones kick in! Ive noticed the little roos are so sweet youd think they were girls..only to blind you with denial of what they truly are! Lol

Its a shame because if he is a Roo (and im fairly convinced) it means we cant keep him, we live in a fairly built up village and the neighbours dont appreciate the dawn chorus

one of my neighbours has recently been forced to get rid of his Roo

Ive heard of some methods of stopping them crowing but im leaning towards thinking thats cruel.......................so disappointing he is such a lovely bird i dont want him to go to a new home :(

I know folks who cage up their roos in their basements for the nightvand return them to the coops after 9 am...NOW he is still going to crow during the day but most people are at work or too busy to notice an ocasional crow?

No basement here and the inside of the house belongs to the cats (upstairs) and the dog (downstairs)

I cant help taking in animals that need a home!!!!!!!!
Im sure i will find a solution.........................at least i hope so! :(
My hybrids are Rhode Island crosses and it would be lovely to breed them with a pure rhodie.......................i feel a hunt for a new house in a quieter area coming on! lol

Ooohhh! I'm jealous!!!
I've wanted Chocolate Orpingtons for a while (don't care if they are large or bantams).
But I'm thinking girl, girl, boy?, and boy.

Yes thats as i suspected, Red remains a mystery he/she needs to develop a bit more so we can tell!!!!!
The chocolate bantams are adorable :D im really pleased with them and to think i almost didnt buy them!

So happy that they tugged at my heart strings being the only two left!
