Im very new to this but logic tells me that the black chicken in the picture is a rooster simply because of the size and the feathers. I don't see any spurs on the legs and this bird is not mean, I can pick it up with no problems. Our city code says no roosters but hens are fine. Any guesses, because this was bought from a feed store and they said BSL are all identified at hatch so not sure if this slipped through the cracks somehow.

That is most defenitley a rooster dogshoe, you have handeled it since birth thats why its so nice, most roosters are very nice and easy to pick up, spurs differ, breed to breed, but they become more evident around 7 months onward!!!, notice the tail feathers how they are long and bend over ,much more decorative which is common with the displasive nature of roosters

That's what I was thinking.... I just need to find a home for him now. I have a friend that might take him otherwise if anyone in Tucson area needs a rooster I've got one! Lol

So what happens when I remove the rooster from the flock, are they going start fighting to determine who the new leader will be?
