roo or hen???

its a light brahma ( im pretty sure) and ive always been sure it was a hen and the rooster treats it like a hen (though ive never seen him mount it). but today i came home and caught it mounting on of my RIR hens! the rooster never lets the smaller rooster even come close to the hens, much less mount them, but today it mounted the RIR hen with him right next to it and seemed to ignore it. is this some weird hormone thing or what?ive never seen it crow either. theyre all about 28 weeks. what do u guys think?

That's a rooster. A hen wouldn't have such a large comb/wattles and pointy hackle feathers.

Well, I'm no expert...just had to get help with gender identity on one of mine, but he was quite a bit younger. So, what do I think? I think congratulations are in order - I think you're about to become a grandparent!

That's for certain! Our pullets don't start laying until about 10 months old.
