I was given a couple chickens a few days ago, both were hatched on Dec 26, 2014. I have 2 others that were also hatched the same day from the same farm that Ive had here for around 2-3 weeks. 2 of the multi colored chickens you could tell by looking are roos, the barred rock looking one is also 100% roo. My question lays with #4.
Also very pretty, mostly white with a lot of coloring to him/her. Could easily pass as a roo. The other 3 have been crowing for quite some time, this bird hasn't done anything but peep like a chick. This bird has rounded hackle feathers (these feathers are dark with white edges so it was hard to tell at first) the saddle feathers however do have points to them. The tail feathers, unlike the other 2 that look nearly identical, are short and rounded. The others have longer really pretty tail feathers. The others are tall, slender birds this one is more round than tall. It also has not developed Spurs, not even a bump whereas the others had small Spurs beginning to pop up. All 4 birds are from the same flock by the same roo (they only had the 1 mature roo) the 3 multi colored birds are from the same hen. Really hope it's a pullet but if its a roo, that's ok too.
Sorry the pics aren't very good, the bird didn't want off the roosting bar. I have this one separate until I know the gender for sure even if it means waiting for an egg lol. There's not another gate so I couldn't get close ups of the hackle feathers. First 4 photos are of the bird in question, other pics are of its confirmed brother (feathering/size/build is different and he crows)
This is the brother and 1/2 brother when they first arrived 2+ weeks ago:::
