Roo or pullet?

My Olive egger is about 5 weeks old. And twice the size of everyone else. Just this week their comb is getting bright red. Do they look like a rooster?

This is my first flock I got them as 1 day olds from a feed store

At the top of the "Breed or Gender" forum page, there is a photo guidelines sheet you may want to take a look at. We can't really see much of the bird when you are holding him / her.

No expert here, but I'm guessing roo as well based on 'tude lol, and could be with the comb, too, but some breeds can pink up faster than others. Remember, with olive eggers, just because they were all in the same bin doesn't mean they have the same parents, or even same mix of breeds, ...or comparable growth rates.

Some more clear shots would help, but sometimes you just have to give it time.

No worries, me too! It's only our second year doing chickens, and I was so sure one of my tractor supply pullets was going to turn out to be a rooster. But then they didn't. I felt kind of dumb at the time, but I just keep watching these threads and I'm picking up more all the time, and of course no substitute for experience. I still don't have a rooster in my flock yet... :/ Can you keep him?

They are my son's favorite bird so I am really hoping I'm wrong and they end up being a pullet! I would keep him but my town you're not supposed to. So if anyone complained I'd have to rehome. But we are so attached to them all! I hear roosters occasionally in neighbors yards, so hoping we can keep him regardless!! I agree, time and experience are the key.

I hear you! We ended up with a different breed than I had planned on this year, and on the one hand I'm still adjusting to the shock, but on the other, they are already our sweet little chickies, so how do you just get rid of them!??? Lol the struggle is real.
