I'm new to owning chickens and have an Orpington mix that is around 3 months old. Was told by the man who gave "her" to me that it was a pullet, but then someone mentioned that the tail looked cockerel. Hoping some experts out there might be able to tell from a picture.
I think pullet. All of my pullets have similar tails - I believe (hope) I have 6 pullets and 1 roo. My roo is all roo - thick legs, muscular body, taller - but no tail yet, LOL.
That's a great picture - you should use it for your avatar!
Ok, I thought so based on what I've read but since I've never owned any before I wasn't sure. She is super friendly and loves my kids. I'm afraid she might have a tumor though. Under her left wing around the hip area is a large lump, like golf ball or bigger. It's hard like bone. Hoping its just a deformity. She walks fine and is eating well. It makes her left wing sit a little higher than the other. Can you tell in the pic? That's what first drew my attention. I kept wondering why she was so uneven. Then I lifted up her wing and could feel this large protuberance. My kids would be heart broken if something happens to her or she turned out to be a he and we had to get rid of him.
