I have 8 week-old cochin bantams, and one in particular is throwing me for a loop. "She" (Clover) started going red at the base of the comb and wattles at 3 weeks. Things still weren't very clear at 5 weeks, when some BYC members guessed cockerel. I thought for sure we would know by now, but no. There's no mega comb or dangly wattles... just that persistent red base.

What do you think? Pullet or cockerel?

Video here. I'll also attach some photos of Clover next to her sister for comparison.

I would guess possibly cockerel, because Clover has small wattle, while none of the others do. I have a cochin roo, and his wattles were the main indicator for me. I'm not 100% sure though, Clover just looks more rooster-y than the others.

I had a pullet that grew some decent wattles early on, but they weren't red. And I completely agree: can't tell if Clover's a rooster or just looks more rooster-y!
I think they’re both pullets honestly. Continue to update!
I really hope so! Clover's my most polite and demure "pullet" and helps to ground some of the more scatterbrained ones. I'd hate to lose that in a sea of male hormones! 😅
