Why does my rooster pick on the hens first thing in the morning? Every morning when i go to let them in the run, he pecks on the ones closes to him ,then hops to another roost and pecks them on the head. I have 2 roos and 10 hens, he is the main roo. He good the rest of the day.

No idea. Maybe to make sure they remember that he's king of the roost before he does the treat finding for them during the day?

My roos do the chicken dance thing at the hens and shove them a little first thing.

    Maybe asserting their dominance?[IMG]

My roo seems to attack the hens more in the morning too, especially
when we first open the coop to let them in their run or out in the yard.
I think he gets insecure about his ladies running in different directions
or maybe he just gets a bit excited. [IMG]
