ROO PROBLEM

I have an enormous fear of chickens for this exact reason. When I was a kid we were boarding the horses at a barn that had a mean rooster that would chase us up and down the barn way. My dear dad finally took him for a "car ride". I still have no idea where he went. I was so afraid of chickens I could not even look at them at the fairs withot losing my breathe!

Now that we have the silkies, I have really lost alot of that fear. The only time Ricky gets worked up is when we are messing with one of the girls and she yells for help. And even then, all you have to say is "Ricky No" and he settles right back down. An attack roo can really screw you up mentally!

I went to a poultry sale last year and saw a beautiful rooster. All of the birds had a tag with a brief description of breed, etc. This rooster had a tag that just said "crazy mean rooster." At least the seller was honest.

I have a big aggressive BO that kept coming back at me when I swiped a hand at him or kicked at him when he came after me. I finally got tired of it and grabbed him by the legs and just let him hang for a minute while I explained that I was the boss and if this didn't fix the problem then a stew pot would. He's never came at me again though he is rough on the other chickens. I prefer him this way and he is one of two I will be keeping out of the six BO roos I have. BTW I believe everyone should read rooster red's page on aggressive roosters. Good stuff.
