So we've never had a rooster before. I have 7 right now due to a straight run purchase. We have decided who we are going to keep. His name is Quasimodo. I named him that because...hes strange. He arches his body sideways when he's around us so it looks like he has a hump on his back. I havent seen this behavior with the other roos. He lets me pick him up and pet him too. He has a weird crow though. He does the crow and then it sounds like hes muttering to himself. One time it sounded like this:
Cockadoodle doo!!!...
.I did it....
Not sure if thats normal or not. But he does it everytime. Anyone else witness this type of thing? My SO thinks its air going back down his trachea

Do you have a video of it? Did have a cockerel who did something that sounded similar. He stuttered at the end.
Arching his body sideways is aggressive.
I'd pick another roo tbh.

He just does it in a circle around you and then runs away terrified. Hes scared of all the hens. All of our other roos chase you down when your back is turned. He lets us pick him up and pet him. He has also never bit us. I dont have a video of it unfortunately.

What he hasn’t done doesn’t mean he won’t do something, he is dominating you and testing the boundaries, and you either can fix it, or just get rid of him along with the rest.I would just get rid of all the boys, the girls will like it more anyway.😊

We want to keep one boy. We agreed that if he steps out of line...we simply dont keep roos. The point is to constantly have an influx of hens. Quasi is our most docile roo by far. None of the other roos will allow handling.
