Roo Roo (my 9 day old Austorlorp) is quite the character...he loves to crawl up on me the minute I have a hand anywhere near the brooder but keeps pecking my dern mole--particularly one mole...I'm not even that freckly/molish...LOL--what giveS? what do I do b/c I don't want him to grow up pecking me!? silly Q/concern but I need a sweet Roo and he usually is...very inquisitive! Any advice?

I'm thinking, wear a jacket, long-sleeved shirt or put a bandaid over it! It's totally normal chicken behavior.

Oh no...I'm fine with it (actually think its a hoot! he's my favorite anyways...) and know its something to deal with just wondered if I "shouldn't" let him do it so he wouldn't get the idea later???

Chicks are curious about EVERYTHING. They peck at stuff to find out if it'd edible or not. If you let him near your face he will peck at your teeth and eyes, so be careful! He's not being mean, just curious.

I am getting more and more excited about the chicks I am getting in a week! Although this pecking of your non freckled arm is a bit concerning because my poor hubbs is freckel-mania

They are pecking it because they think it is a bug or something. I have a few small moles mine love to peck at them. Also they love biting and trying to pull off my rings. They are serious and pull real hard to try to get the diamond out lOl.. One of these days I'm afraid a chicken is going to pull out a diamond and I will have to dig through poo until I find it! Another hint: Do not wear long dangly earrings around chickens. Learned that the hard way grrr. I have an old army sweat jacket that I call my chicken armor. I get scratched alot when they try to climb on my arms so I wear the jacket and it gives them something to grab onto when they climb instead of my skin
