In the Brooder

I have a little bantam Roo that I’ve fallen in love with. I’m super attached to him and the thought of giving him up makes me cry. He’s the sweetest chicken in the brooder. When the rest peck at me, he stands there and waits to be picked up. I’m not allowed to have chickens, let alone a rooster. I’m fine with keeping him inside but my dogs have a high prey drive and he would probably not be able to free range inside. I’m worried he will become lonely and sad being kept inside and not socializing with chicken mates. When I pick him up he always settles right into my chest.

Hi. Just wondering what your plan to do with he chicks is if you aren’t allowed to have chickens? Might be best to rehome all chicks together as they are getting bigger.

Yes he will be very lonely and sad living without chicken friends. Even sadder living indoors instead of outdoors.

Many people keep serama bantams inside because they can’t always tolerate cold weather. However, if you want to do this, it would be best to keep him with a hen, too.

He might get sad being alone. I would either get another chicken to live inside with him or re-home him. Does your city not allow chickens?
