Roo that no one wants

I feel your pain. This past April I took four to an auction and was glad to have gotten anything. Even the commission was high. I had five ready to process and couldn't find anyone soon enough for me. I had to feed them all winter. So I had 12 roosters!

I posted on CL and no one would take them for free. Well the five that were old enough to eat? There was no way I was just giving them away. Not after I fed them and cleaned and housed them all winter.

So what can you do. See if someone will take it if YOU bring it to them. Call you local shelter and see what they do with unwanted chickens. Check your feed store and see who has chickens and if they can take it for you. Check for an auction and take it there.

In my case I was ready to just give them to anyone going to the auction just to get rid of them. I really didn't want to wait all day for an auction to end. I had better things to do and wasn't buying any thing myself.

So now I have 5 roosters in the freezer.

Let us know how this works out.

Yep. Well, so far this year, the girls have hatched 19 chickens. 11 of them are roosters. I can't win. I give up.

I think I"m done with letting the girls hatch. I think that I will just start ordering pullets from the hatcheries. I'm wasting too much money on feed. I need my hens for laying eggs. I only want to keep a select group of roosters, in the event I want a certain breed. Other than that, I feel the same way as you. My desire is gone, gone gone.

I totally understand. There is NO way that I am giving my roosters away for FREE.

I totally agree BUT I'd rather not have to get rid of all my chickens because a one loud roo. I put him on Craigslist, for free with a chicken too...she's a bully. Ugh...I got it all...you name it...sigh...

Oh ok, well that sounds like a good deal. I'm sure that someone will give them a good home.

Keep us posted on what happens.

Thank you all for the advice and help. I did find them a home and it completely broke my heart. I just hope they take good care of them...it's so hard to tell who you are giving them to. Sigh...

I am so glad that they found a good home. Do you know anything about the people that you gave them to? Do you think that they would let you visit them?

It happened to me last weekend. Complete heart-broken.
I offered to buy feed if I can visit in a month.
hugs.

To the OP...I wish I could help but,I also use freezer camp because there are just so many unwanted roos...and there's NO WAY I'm caponizing and feeding them all either!
