Roof on the run?

This link has a good description for the Bovans.

The golden ones are Rhode Island Red and Sussex crosses and the Black or Nera ones are RIRs crossed w/ Barred Rocks I think. They're supposed to be hardy good layers w/ good dispositions . . . not the most exciting to look at but pretty is as pretty does, huh? I'm sure I'll be branching out as I read more and more posts on this dang website!! Way too much fun!!

We have clear PALRuf, so *worth* it!

We're in the middle of a rainstorm and the girls are out and dry!

You can see it on our web page here

BCMom- my run is dirt, covered in 3-4 inches of sand. I just bought the playground sand at Home Depot. I will need to replenish it this Spring, but to me it's worth it. The run stays clean and tidy and I have zero smell or flies.

The roof is metal. It's actually reclaimed metal siding from a friend's pole shed that was damaged by hail last summer. I framed in the run, attached the hardware wire with screws and washers and attached the roofing to the run framing with screws. It was done in a short afternoon. Absolutely no regrets. It can be pouring down rain outside and the ladies are outside, scratching around.

We have fearless urban raccoons in our backyard trees that are as big as my dog - and she's a laborador. I don't know if I would trust a wire roof. But that's just me...

And, as posted earlier, it keeps their feet from getting all muddy and gross and then tracking it back inside the coop.
