Hey guys so our run is completely enclosed and predator proof as is but we are considering putting an actual roof on it.

We are looking at something like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Palruf-26-in-x-8-ft-Clear-PVC-Roof-Panel-100423/100038031

What I was wondering is:

1. is there any benefit to having clear vs white? meaning, would clear be better because it lets light in?

2. has anyone used something like this before and if so could you please share some photos?

again, this is for the run, not the coop.

Thank you in advance!

Go with light blocking for shade.

we have metal panels over most of the roof, but put up 3 clear panels where the window in the barn is at. Coop and run are directly behind barn. The clear panels warp just a bit, due to heat we guess. They let in light, but that is hot and the chickens avoid the area until there is shade. The get light through the fence.

It's good for chickens to have daylight.

It's also good for chickens to have shade, especially in the summer when it gets hot.

Assuming that the run has wire sides, light will come in through the sides of the run anyway, so I would go with the opaque panels to provide shade.

I have no personal experience with that kind of roofing.

We used the corrugated metal for sun reflection and because they last longer. We cut four windows and the door is wire mesh so it's not dark. There's nothing wrong with the lighter panels but they do get brittle over time.

I used SeaCoaster panels for my run. I used tan because my run is under trees and I didn't want to see all the leaves and branches on top, plus it will get dirty over time. There is plenty of light in the run, since it is all hardware cloth, except the roof. I don't have a close up picture, but here it is.

Very nice! In your case those panels would work good. I don't have a nice, big tree like that near mine.
