Yeah, that's the other thing I'm figuring out. With 30 acres I hate to have to have it next to the house for electricity. I have other out buildings with power I could use. My oh my, so much to think about.

birdaholic, let me know if you're coming. I'm gonna have to build a bigger coop!!!!

I'm also worried about our first winter with the birds. The hatchery people told me they just needed shelter from the weather & they'll be fine. But I'm still a little concerned

Also, I already had a run-in with my free-range chickens & my dogs - my poor Polish hen is missing 1/2 her head feathers

So the dogs stay tied while the chickens are loose

Don't know who you'd rather lock up, but until you know they'll be OK, I'd suggest keeping one or the other secured
